About Wabei-mono

Since moving to Japan In 1991, I’ve been filling my life with kimono and other exotic textiles picked up on my travels across the Asian mainland. But many of the age-old hand craft techniques used to create these designs are being lost with the advances of technology and globalization. Though I would never begrudge anyone the comforts modernity offers, I do mourn the loss of so much beauty as some of these traditions begin to vanish.

My interest is to create Asian heirloom designs that preserve some element of these exotic patterns in a format that makes them more accessible to the world. All of the designs were created from original art derived directly from Asian fabrics and artifacts I’ve encountered in markets, temples, museums and other venues here in Asia. When ever possible I’ve also included a pdf file to provide something of the historical background or mythological meaning of the designs I offer.

All designs have been digitized in Embird Studio and carefully tested to minimize thread changes and jump stitches. Designs are offered in PES, HUS, VIP3 and JEF. If another format is needed, please feel free to contact me.
